Product Description

Ask any designer, fashion editor, or art director where the hottest trends are coming from, and they'll tell you it's from the streets of certain cities. And if you ask them what magazine gives the best, most authoritative coverage of these outsider fashion incubators, chances are they'll say Nylon. Nylon here combines its street cred and international expertise (the magazine is read in major cities around the world, and has recently launched both Japanese and Australian editions) to reveal the iconic looks in the seven most fashion-forward cities today: London, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Melbourne, Copenhagen and New York. Led by acclaimed editor in chief Marvin Scott Jarrett, Nylon's editors, writers, and photographers cover these cities' trends with the same signature flair, enthusiasm, and eye for the cutting edge that has catapulted the magazine to the top of its demographic. Each chapter opens with an introduction describing the city's particular history, traits, and culture, followed by full-page pictures of each city's stylish residents, showing their creativity in full detail, from Tokyo's famous Goth Lolitas to Copenhagen's casual chic and everything in between. Quotes from each subject tell about who influences their personal style, what they love about their city, and their favorite local stores. Edgy, colorful, and fascinating to look at, Street is a chronicle of diverse urban style that you won't be able to put down.

Boring

Review by Penny Lane, 2010-04-22

I bought this book after I bought the Sartorialist book which had some great pictures in it. From the reader's recommendations, I thought this would be full of great street style ideas also. However, to my disappointment, the outfits were really boring (a lot of jeans). Compared to the unique style people photographed for the Sartorialist website have, these outfits were so everyday. I also regretted my purchase when I saw the poor quality of some of the photos. There were 3-4 that I did enjoy but it's not enough to buy a book for. Totally not worth spending money on.

Poor Quality

Review by Alexander Buzzalini, 2010-01-21

This book was poorly put together and the pictures involved in the book are pixelated.

a great disappointment

Review by Ellen P., 2009-08-05

I had bought this book expecting smart, interesting coverage of fashion as evidenced by the magazine. That's why I was so disappointed when I read this book. It has some worthwhile, interesting outfits, but the level of the photography is so low as to be distracting. Almost all the photos are out of focus, and many, including the entire Paris section, have such horrible lighting so as to completely obscure the actual outfits. I couldn't believe Nylon would not edit out these photos, or re-shoot the section. The layout was rather uninspired and hard to read, with the tiny courier font descriptions of the people on the side so that you had to turn the book and squint to find out more. The only part I really enjoyed was the essays, typical of Nylon fare with good historical and cultural background. Save your money and subscribe to the magazine instead!! Their book "Beauty" is also worth a look. With luck they'll make another street style book with much better production value.

It's "middle of the road"

Review by Crystalsaurus Rex, 2008-02-13

I've noticed in other reviews people have taken up with the fact that its not like Fruits. I think that that is a good thing. It's got more "practical" style if you will. If you're looking to change up your own style a bit, this is much more helpful and inspirational. It's not just for admiring.

not legendary, but really good

Review by Helen Karkush, 2007-09-28

i got it as a present for someone of my friends but ended up leaving it for myself. how mean. but i just loved it.
a nice book to look through again and again. the days you don't know what to wear, how to feel and just wanna change something. there is always some inspiration to get.
nice editors job.
